Brooklyn Oenology Winery (pron. ‘EN-ology’, or simply ‘BOE’) is a locally focused winery based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Founded in 2006 by winemaker Alie Shaper, BOE draws upon the local Long Island and Brooklyn areas as well as New York State to create its identity and award-winning wines.
BOE believes in amplifying the sense of place expressed in Long Island wine by incorporating local creative culinary, agricultural and art worlds into its wine experience. From the artists’ work on the labels to other New York based products sold in the tasting room, BOE strongly connects with and celebrates the local community.
Oenology is defined as the art and science of winemaking. It combines a series of carefully chosen techniques with the unquantifiable touch of taste and aroma evaluation, guided by the winemaker’s intuition. BOE applies a process where the choice of grapes, vineyard blocks, yeast selection, fermentation duration, barrel selection and balance of applied chemistry is paid off in a formula directed by an independent sense of style and taste.
BOE does not own vineyards; it purchases fruit directly from New York vineyards and then manages the winemaking process from harvest to bottle. BOE is currently fermenting at Premium Wine Group, a facility in Mattituck on the North Fork of Long Island.
The tasting room in Williamsburg serves the full line of BOE wines as well as many other New York State consumables and culinary treats.
