Long Island Wines impress judges at 2007 NY State Competition in Napa

Long Island wines travel well! This year’s New York State Food and Wine Classic was held on August 7 and 8 at Copia – The American Center for Food, Wine & the Arts, in Napa, California. Of the 790 wines entered in the 2007 competition, local vintners won Best Red, Best Vinifera Sparkling, Best Oaked Chardonnay, Best Cabernet Franc, Best Merlot, Best Vinifera Red Blend, and 121 of the 513 medals awarded at the Classic. The awards were based on blind tastings by 24 expert judges—10 from California, 6 from New York, 6 from other states, and 2 from other countries. Judges included prominent wine writers, restaurateurs, retailers, and wine educators.
