Long Island Wine Region Delegation attends international “Protect Place” meetings in France.
Three representatives of the Long Island Wine Council travelled to Champagne last week to participate in a meeting of members of the Joint Declaration to Protect Wine Place & Origins, a coalition of prominent wine regions from around the world that is seeking better protection of place names. Attending the meetings from Long Island were former LIWC President Ron Goerler Jr. of Jamesport Vineyards, LIWC Vice President Jim Waters of Waters Crest Winery, and Executive Director Steve Bate.
Long Island was invited to join the coalition in 2010, becoming the first region on the east coast to do so. With the addition of Bordeaux, Burgundy/Chablis and Santa Barbara last week, the Coalition now has 19 member regions.
